Adventure Cities Trip Report – Ottawa, Canada

The Adventure Cities team returned from another adventure filled film shoot, this time in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa. This was the fourth film shoot of the series, and it showed both Adventure Cities host, Jonathan Thompson, and crew a surprising side of this political town.

As the capital of Canada, Ottawa has wrongly been accused of being a dull city full of public servants and not much fun. The folks at Ottawa Tourism were keen to dispel that myth and show the Adventure Cities crew that if you know where to look, you’ll find that the city is full of vibrant culture and adrenaline rushes.

While in Ottawa, the Adventure Cities team stayed at the famous Fairmont Le Château Laurier. This luxury hotel, located between the Parliament Buildings and the ByWard Market, was home-base for their many adventures, which included whitewater rafting down the Ottawa River, escaping the world’s largest escape room at The Diefenbunker (Canada’s Cold War Museum), and racing down the side of the Gatineau Hills on a mountain coaster.

Jonathan also got the chance to experience adventure high up above the city, flying over Ottawa in a biplane, jumping off the country’s highest bungee jump at Great Canadian Bungee, and ziplining down the world’s first inter-provincial zipline.

Ottawa is not only a city full of adventure, but also great food and drink. Jonathan visited Dairy Distillery, the makers of Vodkow Milk Vodka, went on a ride with Ottawa’s Party Bike The Thursty Pedaler, and tasted the uniquely Canadian BeaverTail.

A sleepy government town? We think not.

While in Québec City, the Adventure Cities team stayed at the iconic and luxurious Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This was their home-base for their many adventures, which included kayaking in the striking Parc National de la Jacques-Cartier, climbing up the side of les Chutes Montmorency, ice cream at Ile d’Orléans, visiting the Plains of Abraham, and playing lacrosse, Canada’s national summer sport.

Jonathan also had the opportunity to visit the Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations and the Ekionkiestha’ National Longhouse. Here, Jonathan learnt about the history, heritage, and vibrant culture of the Huron-Wendat nation. Earlier that day, the team was also treated to a traditional performance by Troupe Sandokwa.

Adventure Cities Trip Report – Switzerland

The first two film shoots for Adventure Cities, an exciting new television series set to premiere on Discovery Channel and Outside TV in 2022, are officially a wrap. The crew spent eight magical days in Switzerland during the end of August and beginning of September, turning the lens on the surprising and adventurous cities of Geneva and Zürich.

Geneva

First up was Geneva. Here, celebrated travel journalist and Adventure Cities host, Jonathan Thompson quickly discovered that Geneva is a destination in and of itself, and not just a stop on the way to go skiing in the Alps.

While in Geneva, Jonathan participated in a unique watch-making experience, visited the Victorinox Flagship Store, went rafting and hiking, and explored Lake Geneva in style via a luxury power boat.

Zürich

Saying goodbye to Geneva, the crew then headed over to Zürich. So much more than a banking city, Zürich held surprise after surprise for the team.

Adventures included stand up paddle boarding, surfing, mountain biking, a trip to the Rhine Falls, castle touring, visiting the stunning and luxurious Thermalbad & Spa, and enjoying a decadent tuk-tuk fondue and wine tour.

Geneva and Zürich will be featured in two separate episodes of Adventure Cities, premiering in 2022. In the meantime, be sure to follow Jonathan’s social channels (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) for behind the scenes filming adventures.
